Even if the amendment bill, which will bring the Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER) under the National Institutes of Technology Act,fails to pass through Rajya Sabha,it will not hamper the future of the first batch of M.Sc students, said KN Ganesh, director of the institute.
Asking parents and students not to panic Ganesh said, The government has spent about Rs 2500 crore for these institutes. And a lot of discussions are being carried out on how to improve the quality of education and research. The bill might not have been passed in the session because of walkouts or reasons which are in nobodys control. However, this will not affect the outgoing batch in any way.
The institute, which falls under the purview of the Ministry of Human Resource Development is known for the quality of research. However, the fear of bill failing to pass through Rajya Sabha, even after being cleared by the Lok Sabha, spread a wave of panic among the students.
The students have already been given a provisional certificate. It would have been good had the bill been passed this time, but it does not matter even if it is not passed immediately. Things should be in place by next year. Our students are already getting offers from reputed companies and going abroad for their PhD. Nowhere have they been asked to produce bonafide certificates. So,this should not create any kind of fear in the minds of students or their parents.
