Stealing bikes for stunts: four youths held

Police have recovered 10 stolen motorcycles from them. The four youths belong to well-to-do and educated families. They passed HSC exams last month,and were about to take admissions in senior colleges.

On July 1,the youths were moving suspiciously on motorcycles near MIT College when a patrolling team of Kothrud police station arrested. During interrogation,they admitted that they were stealing motorcycles for stunts.

Investigations revealed that the youths came to know one another at the motorcycle track in Undri Pisoli where they regularly go for practising stunts. “The suspects are crazy bike riders fond of thrilling motorcycle stunts. But the motorcycles get damage after the stunts. So the youths decided to steal different brands of motorcycles to continue practising stunts,” said a police officer.

“The suspects procured a duplicate key and used it to steal bikes parked mainly outside colleges in Kothrud and Chatuhrshrungi. After the theft,they used to SMS each other to decide the time for the stunts. At times,the youths also modified the motorcycles to give them a stylish look,” the officer said.

Police said at times,they also used to take their family members to Undri for showing their motorcycle stunts. The families were not aware that the boys were stealing bikes for stunts. After the stunts got over,the suspects used to leave the motorcycles and carry out more vehicle thefts.

“None of the four youths has any past criminal record. This is the first criminal case against them. They have been in the stealing business for about a year now,” said senior inspector Chandrakany Ghodke. The investigation team comprises sub-inspector Bhanudas Shinde,havaldar Bhagvan Savant,police naiks Raju Borde,Santosh Pagar,Balu Gaikwad,constables Sanjay Paigude,Baba Dangde,Suhas Pawar.
