The grand finale of Dance India Dance L’il Masters, which was held in the city on Saturday, had all the ingredients of a drama-filled reality show

The stage couldn’t have been bigger, nor could the occasion. For the four kids, after having battled it out with 12 other dancers over 13 weeks, making it to the grand finale of the Dance India Dance (DID) L’il Masters was the result of painstaking hard work and perseverance. Held at the Balewadi Sports Complex on Saturday, the glitzy event epitomised everything that one hoped for in the finals of an event — from the starry-eyed banter of the crowds to the sight of the mass of nerves that the finalists were reduced to. Jeetu Moni Kalita from Guwahati,Vaishnavi Patil from Pune,Manoj Rathod from Mumbai and Atul Banmoria from the small town of Mani Majra near Chandigarh, amidst loud cheers, swayed and shimmied on the stage to impress judges Farah Khan,Sandip Soparrkar, and guests Mithun Chakraborty, the father-daughter duo of Anil and Sonam Kapoor and choreographers,Remo D’Souza,Geeta Kapoor and Terrance Lewis. And while the eventual title of Dance Ka Baap was lifted by Jeetu Moni (a crowd favourite),the four made sure that the decision-making was a hard task.

Speaking about the event, actor Anil Kapoor said,“The entire show has showcased the enormous talents that we house in the country. In fact,I still feel that parents should encourage their children to take up some or the other art form to discover their own untapped talents.” Jeetu Moni was followed by Atul,Vaishnavi Patil and Manoj Rathod as first, second and third runners up respectively.

The event featured comic capers by host Manish Paul,Jay Bhunsali and Somya. Sandip Sopparkar, one of the judges at the event, said,“I still maintain that amongst all the four children,Vrushali had the best technique, however the fact that Jeetu Moni learnt so much in four months tilted the odds in his favour.” And as the kids still struggle to grapple with their new found fame,Patil who is from the city, confesses that at the end of the day,she hopes to lead a normal life. “When I had gone to my school (NMV Girls School) to visit the children there, they were all crowding near the car and screaming my name. It felt good, but for me nothing really has changed yet.” Sonam Kapoor who was also present at the Grand Finale to promote her film Aisha, says,“I have followed the show on and off,and I think that the kids are fabulous. As far as my film is concerned, since I come from a Punjabi background and as the film’s central character is the match-maker played by me,I could totally relate to the character. I have seen this happen a lot, with Punjabi aunties who keep coming in with interesting proposals from overseas for girls back here.”

Winners speak
Jeetu Moni Kalita:
“I am glad that I won; now I will go back to studying, before finally setting out to make a career in this field.”
Vrushali Patil:“Nothing has changed for me. Dance is still my priority and I am still a simple girl. But it felt nice when people in my school and city recognized me.”
Manoj Rathod:“I wish I could have won the competition,if not for me,then at least for my parents.”
Atul Banmoria:“The show is over, and there is nothing more. From Monday,I will head back to school for my studies.”
