For the Pune-based outfit, the essence of forming the band lies in being able to connect with people through music
For a band to come out of hibernation over and over again and being able to connect with audiences and silence their critics is no mean achievement. And considering that the Pune-based band Vertigo has risen from ashes to not only make a headway into the Indian rock scene, but also gone that extra mile in proving themselves. Performing at the Transcend College Festival at the Symbiosis campus in Lavale, the band were at their metal best as they had the crowd head banging at tunes of metal bands and at songs from their own kitty.
The band which was originally formed as an Alternate Rock/ Metal band has since then stayed true to their roots in spite of the fact that the inspirations driving the band members being different. As keyboardist Sanket Sane puts it,We were just a couple of guys who really jammed well, and more importantly gelled well as a band,so when we played on stage,we were all aware of our strengths and weaknesses and just stuck to our basics and have since then done well.
The band, which won the I-rock competition in 2005,disappeared from public glare after 2006 owing to other commitments that the band members had. Known for their popular single Believe, the band as of now have no intentions to cut out a full-fledged album. Not in the immediate future but maybe a couple of years down the line we can think about it, says lead vocalist Lacunza Rimsu of their future projects.
For a band, which has distinct influences of premier outfits like Iron Maiden,Metallica and Rage Against the Machine, the members feel a genuine way of reaching out to niche audiences is by playing covers of famous bands and squeezing in a few originals. Its not like we do not have original stuff, but then in order to popularise the same we need to play songs that people want to hear, and only then can we put in our own compositions, says lead guitarist,Ron Barooah.
As far as our influences go,we all have different tastes ranging from classic metal bands to alternate rock outfits, but for all of us we our inspired by our own performances, and every performance is a step we take to perform better, and a notch higher the next time. That for us is the real high associated with playing for the masses, says bassist Abhijit Thigle, with a definitive grin.
