The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) standing committee rejected 14 proposals tabled by deputy mayor Prasanna Jagtap on technical grounds. The panel said his demand for diversion of funds, earmarked for mega infrastructure development projects in the city, could not be alloted for development projects in his ward.

The PMC had approved Rs 1.57 crore for improving the traffic situation on Sinhagad road area by construcing tunnel to connect it with Satara road.

Jagtap had urged the committee to divert the funds of Rs 87 lakh, allocated for the tunnel, for development projects in his electoral ward. He had also demanded that Rs 70 lakh, earmarked for improving the traffic system across the city, should be diverted for civic projects in his ward.

“The proposals tabled by deputy mayor could not be approved as the diversion of money is allowed only within the allocation for particular ward,” said standing committee chairman Ganesh Bidkar.

Upset over the decision of committee,Jagtap justified his demand for diversion of the funds. “The administration has not even started the work and the funds remain unutilised,” Jagtap said.

Jagtap, however, said he has been asked to submit fresh proposal seeking diversion of funds from other projects barring mega projects.
