The Inter-school Invitational Football Tournament hosted by the St Josephs High School,Ghorpuri kicked off on Monday at their home ground with a victory for the home team in the inaugural match.
The tournament has been organised as a tribute to the school’s sports teacher Santan Serroa,who will be leaving the institution,and features 16 teams from all over the city,including two outstation teams.
In the opening encounter,St. Josephs,Ghorpuri blanked the Stella Maris High School 4-0,thanks to a brace from Edwin Anthony. Kartik Kali and Sagar Pillay also contributed a goal apiece. In another encounter,Vidya Bhavan rode on Nishith Hegde’s brilliant performance to thrash the St. Sebastian School,Daund 7-3.
Hegde smashed in 4 goals,with Rahul Parkhi,Francis Louis and Jonathan Solanki adding a goal each for Vidya Bhavan,while Pravin Elias and Nipun Moundikar waged a losing battle for St. Sebastian,with the former scoring a brace.
The final encounter of the day saw St. Patrick’s edge out the Don
Bosco High School 2-1,with Mustaq Shaikh netting the winning goal for them after his teammate Savio Joseph and opposite number Jordan Anthony had scored a goal each for Patrick’s and Don Bosco respectively.
Loyola High School,YMCA and Village High School were the other teams to record victories that gained them entry into the quarterfinals.
