Spot-fixing: BJP workers stop IPL players’ buses

The buses were stopped around 2.30 pm near the entrance to the stadium ahead of the match between Pune Warriors India and Delhi Daredevils slated for 4 pm.

Pune rural police said that hundreds of BJP workers led by MLA Bala Bhegde reached the stadium before the match between Pune Warriors India and Delhi Daredevils and staged an agitation raising slogans against spot-fixing.

They staged their protest near entrance number 2 of the stadium.

Manojkumar Lohiya,SP,Pune rural police,said,“A mob led by MLA Bhegde staged the agitation. We have reports that they stopped two buses in which players were travelling. We have started recording statements of drivers and others who were in the bus. I have asked my squads to check whether proper permission had been sought for the protest or not. Offence will be registered in the case after we verify all the facts.”

Police had to use force to clear the way for the buses.

An officer who was on duty at the spot said that the BJP workers blocked the bus for more than five minutes. “They were raising slogans against ‘spot-fixing’ demanding that IPL matches be stopped.”
