On converting 380 hectares of agricultural land into a residential zone
The City Improvement Committee (CIC) of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has called for a special meeting on converting 380 hectares of agricultural land in Mundhwa into a residential zone.
We have called a special meeting on the Mundhwa land issue to discuss its various aspects, said chairman of the CIC,Virendra Kirad on Friday.
Municipal Commissioner Mahesh Zagade had tabled a proposal before the CIC to change the status of the 380 hectares of land in Mundhwa from agricultural land into residential land. After the CIC approval, the proposal will be placed before the civic general body for its verdict on the issue. This proposal is being considered very important,as it is perhaps for the first time that a proposal regarding the conversion of such huge piece of land into residential zone had come up for discussion.
The leaders of parties held a meeting on Friday to discuss the issue. However, the meeting did not come to any conclusion or decision. When the issue came up for discussion at the CIC the same day,the members of the committee decided to defer a decision, saying the proposal needed to be first studied thoroughly. The members, cutting across all parties, insisted on holding a separate meeting.
The civic administration has sought this agricultural land considering the land crunch in the city. Mundhwa land was left out in 1996,when agricultural land in villages merged into the civic limits. Some corporators have taken a strong objection to the proposal, saying the agricultural land would be wasted and used for raising concrete jungle.
