
The World Disabled Day was observed by Southern Command on Saturday at the Paraplegic Rehabilitation Center (PRC) in Khadki.
The function was presided over by Lt Gen P M Hariz, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Southern Command and his wife Zarina Hariz, Regional President, Army Wives Welfare Association. A number of institutions including PRC, Queen Mary’s Technical Institute (QMTI), Artificial Limb Center (ALC), Pune and Asha School participated in the event with over 150 differently-abled serving and retired soldiers of all the three services and differently abled children of ASHA School.

A press release from the Defence PRO said that the function was titled ‘Inspirational Day’, keeping in line with the inspiration people draw from these soldiers and children. Besides felicitating the residents of the participating institutes, the event included an entertainment program performed by the differently abled children and soldiers.
A book titled ‘Born to Fly’, written by Air Commodore Nitin Sathe on the life and times of the late Flying Officer M P Anil Kumar, who was a paraplegic and long time resident of PRC, Pune, was dedicated to PRC by the Army Commander.
Speaking on the occasion, Lt Gen Hariz encouraged the community to come forward and participate actively in rehabilitation programs. He appreciated the efforts of the staff for their dedication in discharging their charter and also lauded the achievements of the institute.
