Reacting to the high incidence of female foeticide despite awareness drives,Swatantra Theatre group has decided to move beyond words and perform a mime act that will touch an emotional chord and bring about a change. Directed by Abhijeet Choudhary,the act will be performed at Lavasa Town Hall and Lavasa Promenade on September 7,3 pm onwards.

Vroom moments

Sashakt Bharat Nirmiti,headed by historian Pandurang Balkawade,is organising a motorcycle rally from September 19 to October 12 from Kolkata to Guwahati,covering 4,584 kms. The rally will mark the 50th year of the Indo-China war,also promoting national unity among the citizens of both countries. It will follow a route from Kolkata to Malda,entering Siliguri and Darjeeling,covering the Gangtok stretch. The route will then follow to Tezpur,crossing the Bum La pass and reaching North Lakhimpur. Having crossed the Brahmaputra river by boat,the bikers will follow a route through Shibsagar,Kohima,Shilong,finally reaching Guwahati.

Painter Sita Sudhakar’s works will be exhibited at Bal Gandharva Kaladalan,JM Road,from September 1 to 3. The exhibition will showcase 20 creations,each of which,according to Sudhakar,represents the 21 leaves used as offering to Lord Ganesha. Each of these leaves,she says,either has some medicinal value or spiritual significance.“I have not painted Ganesha in any particular form and visualised him in the forms of leaves,fruits and so on,” she says.
