The control branch of city traffic police is coming up with a website to help citizens get real time updates on road blockages, congestions and traffic jams in various parts of the city. As a first step towards the project, the traffic police have started a section on Pune police website http://www.punepolice.gov.in that will give details of the road blockages and traffic snarls during Ganesh Festival.
People can know about the planned road blockages and traffic diversions during Ganesh Festival by clicking on this section. People can also know the convenient routes for driving or walking from one place to another through the system. It is a step towards developing an intelligent transport system management, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Manoj Patil,at a press conference on Tuesday.
Mukesh Jha and Janardan Prasad, alumni,IIT Kanpur, and founders of Ubida Solutions Private Limited, have prepared the system for the traffic police. MCCIA,Pune, came up with the proposal, which is supported by Pinnacle Group and Tejraj Promoters and Builders, said Patil.
Information about planned road blockages and traffic diversion are displayed on the website. We have plans to display the information on unplanned or sudden road blockages that may happen at any place in the city, he said.
We are also expecting GPS system to be installed on 650 PMPML buses. Once it happens,we will track the travelling time of the buses. If the bus movement is slow on a particular route,we can predict the traffic congestion on this route. Then further information can be sought and shared with the public, he said. Patil said the website will soon be launched.
Information in Marathi soon DCP Patil said the information uploaded on the website was in English, but it would soon be available in Marathi. The Pune unit of MNS had recently objected to the traffic awareness boards put up by the traffic police which carried messages in English. Prakash Dhore, city chief of MNS,said,There is a government regulation that any government information should be displayed in Marathi.
