Hustlers Foxes and Team Extreme scored easy wins over their respective opponents to enter the main draw of the sixth edition of the PYC ATC Snooker Challenge 2009-10 on Saturday at PYC Gymkhana.
The tournament which features former world champions Geet Sethi,Yasin Merchant,and Alok Kumar,along with 250 other players representing a record 54 teams,kicked off today and saw Hustlers Foxes and Team Extreme dominating the qualifying rounds.
Hustlers foxes blanked out Royal Aces 2-0. Aditya Gupte started his team off well and beat opponent Divyesh Inamdar 50-38 in the first game.
Inamdar came back in the next game to beat him 62-52 but Gupte managed a good victory in the last game,winning it 61-44. Sachin Ghorpade of Hustlers Foxes then recorded a comfortable win in the next game. He won it 60-17 and 58-23.
In the dead rubber,Vipul Parekh defeated Suraj Patil after the latter conceded victory.
In the next match,Team Extreme beat Cue Masters 2-1 in a tough encounter.
Team Extreme were off to a poor start as their cueist Sanket Waetherkar lost to Shree Sane of Cue Masters. After losing the first game 34-44,Sanket came back well and won the next one 67-50.
But in the end Sane showed his class and defeated his opponent 76-37 to win the opener. Sonu Kowojya of Team Extreme then got his team back in the game by defeating Amit Agarwal. Again it was Agarwal of Cue Masters who took the lead and the match tilted favour of his team. Agarwal won the first game 62-52,but Sonu showed real courage to get back into it and won the second game 69-34.
Taking confidence from this he won the next game 42-31 with ease. Akshay Vaidya then sealed the deal for Team Extreme,beating Aniruddha Sawant in two easy games 65-43,72-35.
