Dance Stance
The ongoing Pune festival was home to a dance competition with a twist,when the final round of the Women’s Festival Dance Competition was held at the Ganesh Kala Krida Manch on September 20. Specifically arranged for married women,the competition was divided into three age groups – 25-35 years,35-45 years,and above the age of 45. Almost 40 different types of dances were showcased by the participants. Anusuya Joshi,Anuradha Thorat and Sanjivani Nitsure were the winners in the three categories. In addition,in the couples category,Sukhda Bothre and Medha Kumbhojkar won the first prize and the Kondan Group won the first place in the group dance category. The competition was judged by Anuradha Gandhi,Deepa Bafna and Saieswari Shetty.
Classical extravaganza
Kishori Amonkar,one of the most versatile classical singers that the country has produced,was in town for the Pune Festival and she mesmerised audiences with her performance on Monday. Amonkar,who performed along with her granddaughter Tejashree Amonkar on the Tanpura,was accompanied by Bharat Kamat on the tabla,Suyog Kundalkar on the harmonium and Nandini Bedekar.
