Musical mélange
For Sufi music lovers in the city,its an ideal confluence of monsoons and music this weekend. Aperture India Art Gallery is hosting a show on Sufi music tomorrow from 7.30 pm onwards,wherea artiste Azadeh from Tehran will be performing. She will be singing Sufi songs comprising of poetry by Rumi and Hafiz along with others. Mojtaba,another musician from Tehran,is also going to perform in the show,in addition to playing the Daf and the Sitar.
Just kidding
City-based Career Forum Fashion Academy (CFFA) is all set to enthrall the young and the old alike with Small Wonders 09,a kids dance and fashion show. Around 200 kids in the age-group of five to 15 years will be selected from the auditions to be held on July 11 and 12. The show,which is a charity show in aid of a blind school,is scheduled to be held on November 15 at the Ganesh Kala Krida Rangamanch. The mega fashion event will have 10 fashion sequences,to be choreographed by ace designer and choreographer Rohit Verma along with tele-star Anjali and ex-model Komal. Five dance sequences on the theme Bollywood will be choreographed by Dhanashree. The highlight of the event will be a fashion sequence by 15 blind students from different blind schools of the city. Students of CFFA will design costumes for the event and 14 students of CFFA will also be awarded their diplomas on the same day. Many tele-stars are expected to grace the event.

Big Cinemas adds another feather to its cap as it brings to town the exquisite Italian art form opera for the first time in India. BIG Cinemas has joined hands with international partners more2screen and in their first offering,they are going to showcase a high-quality production from Englands internationally-renowned Glyndebourne Festival of the operas. Titled La Cenerentola (Cinderella),it will be screened in the city today (with English sub-titles) at Gold BIG Cinemas from 7.30 pm onwards. The screening includes a wine and cheese event between the two acts of the opera.

Drape yourself in the colours of the rainbow this monsoon with Shilpa Anands exclusive range of colorful paithani sarees. Also available are special gents kurtas and short kurtas made out of paithani,especially for the rainy season. An exhibition featuring these products by Anand will be on at the Punyayi Hall on Paud Road between June 18 and 21. The exhibition will showcase 15 types of paithani bridal collection,along with a range of 30 varieties of purses. Anand has an exclusive clientele,which includes leading women executives from the corporate sector and leading ladies from Bollywood.
For a noble cause
Dishari,a socio-cultural organisation,in order to create awareness about cancer,will be organising a Bengali play Thakurer Aloe Nati Binodini at the Balgandharva Rangamandir,today,7.30 pm onwards. The play showcases the life of Binodini,a theatre artiste during the time of Ramakrishna Paramahansa and depicts the colourful story of her life,its vicissitudes,dreams and betrayals. In a recent reprint of the autobiography,Saumitra Chatterjee points out that the chroniclers of the theatre movement in 19th century Bengal are silent on the topic of Binodini Dasi. The play will be performed by Anandam Mumbai,a cultural organisation involved in charitable work for cancer patients. It aims to create awareness about the cause and donate proceeds to Bharat Sevasram,Ramakrishna Mission and Prashanti,an NGO for cancer care.
