While the movie had signified the birth of the Indian film industry,Dadasaheb Phalke’s Raja Harishchandra,has now been immortalised for movie lovers in the form of a DVD. Released on Thursday,August 30,the programme was held at the National Film Archives of India (NFAI) theatre. The DVD is a commemorative one to celebrate 100 years of Indian cinema and is based on the surviving reels of the film. The rare silent film is also accompanied by a musical score that is given by Marathi film composer Rahul Ranade. In addition two other films from the silent era namely Kaliya Mardan by Phalke and the Bengali comedy film JAMAI BABU by Kalipada Das were also released. Those present for the release included Prashant Pathrabe,director NFAI; PK Nair,ex-director NFAI; ex-FTII professor Suresh Chabbria and music director Rahul Ranade.
