(Express Photo) The Pune city police have filed a chargesheet, going upto 1,750 pages, against 18 people in connection with the murder of gangster Sharad Mohol.
Investigation officer assistant commissioner of police (crime) Sunil Tambe submitted the chargesheet before a special court in Pune on Wednesday. Mohol was shot dead on his marriage anniversary by a group of men, including his associate Sahil alias Munna Polekar, in a lane near his residence in Sutardara, Kothrud on January 5 this year.
His aide Arun Dhumal (28) had lodged a complaint at Kothrud police station, based on which an FIR was registered under Section 302 of the IPC and relevant sections of the Arms Act. The same day, police arrested eight people, including Polekar (20), his uncle Namdev Kangude (35) and two lawyers, from two cars near Shirwal on the Pune-Satara highway.
During searches, police recovered three country-made pistols, three magazines, five live cartridges and eight cell phones from their possession.
Probe revealed that Polekar and Kangude were having a previous dispute over money and land deal with Mohol, due to which they allegedly killed him by hatching a conspiracy.
Police suspect that Polekar started working for Mohol with the purpose of keeping a watch on him and attacking him at the right time.
