Seven-year jail term for nine robbers

Additional sessions judge Suchitra Ghodke sentenced nine dacoits to seven-years rigorous imprisonment and imposed a fine Rs 10,000 each on Wednesday. The judgment made special reference to investigations done by assistant police inspector Shaukat Ali Sayyad of crime branch (unit IV).

The nine persons were arrested while they were preparing to loot Union Bank of India,Aundh branch. The gang was also involved in robbing people who used to exit the bank after withdrawing heavy cash.

The convicted persons includeUttam Atmaram Tamanche (31),Jayeshkumar Ashokbhai Tamache (28),Nitinkumar Maniklal Tamache (32),Madhyam Dilip Gagdekar (23),Sunil Jayanti Indarekar (45),Pankaj Jawahar Machrekar (30),Gurukumar Rajubhai Gagdekar (30),Deepak Bajarange (35),and Munna Jaysinh Rathod (40) – all residents of Gujarat.

On October 1,2010,a police team led by Sayyed had intercepted gang’s Tavera jeep in Khadki on the Pune-Mumbai Highway when they were on their way to loot Union Bank of India’s Aundh branch.

The police impounded the jeep and seized Rs 74,000 cash,two knives,seven cell phones,an iron cutter,a rope,screw drivers,map and chilli powder amounting to Rs 6,95,450. Following the seizure,police closed in on a lodge in Khed-Shivapur,around 40 kilometers from Pune,and recovered four pan card belonging to the dacoits.

Sayyed,under the guidance of then in-charge of crime branch (unit IV) inspector Sunil Pawar,brought to the record of the court that 30 cases of robbery and bag lifting were solved with the arrest of the gang from Ahmedabad.

Additional public prosecutor Vinayak Musale examined seven witnesses to prove the guilt of the accused.
