Hong Kong will celebrate its 2000-year-old Dragon Boat Festival this month,where 3000 athletes from 12 countries will participate in races at Victoria Harbour. Also known as Tuen Ng Festival,it is celebrated to commemorate the death of a popular Chinese national hero Qu Yuan who drowned himself in the Mi Lo River to protest against corrupt rulers. Onlookers in the carnival beat drums and eat rice and meat dumplings in memory of Qu Yuan. The special boats in the race are more than 10 metres long and have each been decorated with carved and painted dragon heads and tails.
