Scrap anti-superstition bill

The Maharashtra State Warkari Mahamandal has demanded that the anti-superstition bill,which will come up in the state assembly in the winter session,be scrapped. The organisation has claimed that the bill would put a ban on every ritual performed by Hindus.
Addressing a press conference on Monday,Narhari Maharaj Chaudhari,secretary of Maharashtra State Warkari Mahamandal said the bill would puta ban on rituals such as pujas since there are no specific definitions for such religious acts.
It is claimed that the bill has been proposed to stop rituals such as human sacrifice. However,the police department has admitted in the information sought under RTI that such acts could be stopped by the present provisions in the Indian Penal Code. In this backdrop we do not understand the need of the anti-superstition bill, he said.
Chaudhari said the Andhashraddha Nirmulan Samiti that has been demanding anti-superstition act is actually against people’s faith in God. The draft bill proposes action against physical as well as mental torture but there is no specific definition. So,can one term participation in Wari as physical and mental torture? We cannot tolerate such recommendations, he said.
He said all the warkaris will protest against the bill and will demand the state government not to pass it.
