Muktangan Vidnyan Shodhika, the Inter-University Centre for Astronomy and Astrophysics (IUCAA) Science Exploratorium will be celebrating Pulastya Science Week from November 8-13 to commemorate the birth anniversary of late Pu.La. Deshpande. This will be a celebration of science on the lines of National Science Day celebrations in February.

The programmes are specially designed for schoolchildren keeping in mind the ongoing Diwali vacations. However it is also open for grownups. The special attraction would be the evening sky-watch sessions, which have been introduced in this programme for the first time.

Arvind Paranjype, scientific officer,IUCAA said,“This year, due to a prolonged monsoon our sky watch sessions had to be delayed as cloudy skies made it impossible. Normally on our sky watching sessions on Fridays we can accomidate only about 30-35 participants. So we thought of includign the sky watching in this programme. We will also be showing Jupiter and if possible Uranus.”

The activities include science experiment demonstrations, some basic basic Astronomy sessions,story-telling drama about constellation,question-answer sessions, public talks and sky watching sessions with telescopes at night. These activities will repeated daily as per the pre planned schedule from 2 pm-10.30 pm. The venue would be the Chandrasekhar Auditorium and the Science Park of IUCAA.

There are no fees charged for any session. However seats for various sessions will be given strictly on first-come-first-served basis until all the seats are taken. For the sky watching session free passes are being issued, which can be collected from the security office of IUCAA.
