After being managed by officials with additional charges for several months,key offices of the states school education departments have finally got full-time heads. Appointment orders for the posts were issued by the government on Wednesday.
Newsline,in a report titled Heads not in place,education sector ‘loses mind and published on June 16,had highlighted the vacuum that existed at the top in several important education departments that deal with career and future of millions of young students.
While the primary and secondary education departments have got some relief,the higher education department is still facing staff crunch at the top level,which is affecting its overall functioning.
As per latest orders,Sarjerao Jadhav has been given full-time charge of the Directorate for Secondary Education. The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education (MSBSHSE) chairman was earlier taking care of the work as an additional charge. Gangadhar Mhamane replaces Jadhav as the MSBSHSE chairman. Mhamane was heading Balbharati as an additional charge and has now handed over its reins to Chandramani Borkar.
Mahavir Mane was the acting director of Directorate for Primary Education,with the additional charge of Maharashtra State Council of Examination (MSCE). He will now look after primary education as a full-time director,with Dilip Sahasrabuddhe being appointed MSCE Director.
Balchitravani,which is responsible for generation of audio-visual material for educational purposes,was being headed by Director,State Council of Educational Research and Training,Nandan Nangare as an additional charge. Nangare has now been appointed as its full-time head.
A senior official said the latest appointments came as big relief for him personally. We were doing our best to the additional responsibility shouldered upon us. But it was a tough ask to simultaneously look after two offices, he said.
Meanwhile,the Department of Higher and Technical Education has yet to expedite measures to remove the vacuum in key offices,such as the Directorate of Technical Education (DTE) and the Directorate of Higher Education. Higher and Technical Education Minister Rajesh Tope had promised to fill the top posts by the end of July,but that has not happened till now. He was not available for comment on the delay.
