Raze Aurangzeb’s tomb, stop his glorification, demands Satara MP Udayanraje
“What is the need for the tomb ?....Bring in a JCB machine and raze the tomb. Aurangzeb was a thief and a lootera,” Udayanraje said when he was asked by reporters in Satara whether the tomb of Aurangzeb should be demolished.

Satara MP Udayanraje Bhosale, a descendant of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj, on Friday called for demolishing the tomb of Mughal emperor Aurangzeb located in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar (earlier called Aurangabad).
“What is the need for the tomb ?….Bring in a JCB machine and raze the tomb. Aurangzeb was a thief and a lootera,” Udayanraje said when he was asked by reporters in Satara whether the tomb of Aurangzeb should be demolished.
The BJP MP advised those who visit the tomb of Aurangzeb to take it to their homes. “He (Aurangzeb) was a thief, and he had come for the purpose of looting. Why should he be glorified? Those who visit his tomb to pray should take the tomb to their homes. Are they, his descendants?” he said.
In the same breath, Udayanraje said, “Some people will colour this as a Hindu-Muslim issue. This is not a Hindu-Muslim issue by any chance. In Shivaji Maharaj’s empire, Muslims occupied important place, be it in his Army or in other services. He never discriminated against them. Even Shivaji Maharaj’s bodyguards were Muslims.”
The royal descendant demanded strict action against those make objectionable statements against Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. “Stern action should be taken against those who indulge in making objectionable statements against our icons like Shivaji Maharaj and Sambhaji Maharaj,” he said.
Udayanraje said a law should be made against those who make derogatory statements against Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj and Chhatrapai Sambhaji Maharaj. ”The state government and the Centre should make a law against those who make derogatory statements against our national icons…At the same time, the government should publish an official book on the life and times of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj so that wrong information about the history during his era is not spread among the masses. A committee of experts should be set up for the purpose,” he said.
