Veteran social activist Anna Hazare Saturday said actor Sanjay Dutt, who was sentenced to five years imprisonment, must accept the verdict. He was speaking on the sidelines of a function organised by the Pune Family Court Lawyers Association to mark the silver jubilee of a family court in the city.
The Supreme Court is the highest court in the country and its verdict is final. Political leaders and others can have sympathy for him (Dutt),but it would be improper to air views contrary to the SC judgment. Dutt must accept the verdict, he said.
On the independence of the CBI,the anti-graft crusader said,Its a well-known fact that Congress government has used the CBI for political purposes and this is underlined by the recent raids on Stalins offices soon after the DMK withdrew support. We have been raising the issue of independence of CBI and wanted it to be brought under the ambit of the Lokpal.
Hazare said the recent withdrawal of support by the DMK shows how regional political parties were proving to be a hindrance to the countrys development.
Anna will soon start an 18-day tour of North India with former Army chief V K Singh to drum up support for formulating laws such as Right to Reject and laws which will give more powers to the gram sabhas.
Of the 120 crore people if even 6 crore support us,we will be able to put pressure on the government to implement these laws, the 74-year-old activist said.
Former District Family Court judge Vibhaykumar Shahapurkar who retired recently was given a farewell by the PFCLA. He was felicitated by the veteran social activist.
The function was presided over by senior lawyer Harshad Nimbalkar.
