Blast:Owners want Rs 25-30 lakh, state govt to review proposal from civic administratiom
The state government will review a civic body proposal for Rs 14.23-lakh property compensation to the owners of German Bakery. Additional Chief Secretary M Ramesh Kumar said they were, for the first time, examining a proposal wherein property compensation has been demanded for damage caused by a blast.
Leopold Café and other joints had suffered damage during the Mumbai terror attacks. They had their own insurance cover. Their cases never came to the government. The German Bakery will be the first site to be examined by us,as there is no policy of giving compensation to property damaged in blasts.
With the government having disbursed compensation to victims, the district administration has now done a property assessment of the German Bakery.
Resident Deputy Collector Anil Pawar said they had received the assessment report from the Pune Municipal Corporation. We are forwarding a proposal of Rs 14.23 lakh as compensation amount for property of the German Bakery.
The administration had demanded an assessment report from the civic body as well as Public Works Department (PWD). It is after three weeks that we got the report and we are forwarding it to the government for further assessment.
Pawar said the compensation was not mandatory, but they would study the proposal.
The Kharoses who own the German Bakery had given a letter to the Mayor and Collector, seeking a Rs 25-30 lakh compensation. We have no accidental insurance cover. Since the bakery ownership was under litigation,we had insured it, said Snehal Kharose, daughter of owner Smita Kharose. I have just finished college and now I will help my mother to manage the business. We have appealed to the government to consider our case as a special request as the bakery is our only source of income.
