Students of University of Pune, waiting for the results of revaluation applications filed in January, are in a quandary as second term exams have started and they are yet to know if they have cleared the subjects in first term exams or not.
While many do not know if they should appear for the exams again, questions have been raised over the delay in revaluation process.
I had filed an application for revaluation of one subject after the first term results were declared. The second term exams started today and I have not not received any reply on the revaluation application, said a law student.
As such, the first term exams were delayed this year. It was held in November owing to swine flu outbreak and college teachers strike and the results were out in the next 45 days.
The staff say they had very little time to clear revaluation applications. We generally get around 100 days after the first term exams. We check the papers in 45 days and address the queries for revaluation in the next 45 days. This year, however,we got only around 70 days in between the two exams, said S M Ahire, controller of examination of the university.
However, said Ahire, the examination department worked round the clock to clear the revaluation queries before exams. We have cleared revaluation applications from students of arts, commerce and law streams as their exams start early. Engineering exams are yet to start and we will clear the applications as soon as possible, he said.
When contacted, senate member Atul Bagul said the delay in revaluation process is not new. There is a norm to declare the university results in 45 days. However, there is no norm regarding clearing revaluation applications. Hence,it is not considered seriously, he said.
If the university can declare results in 45 days,it can definitely clear the revaluation applications in lesser time as the volume is obviously lesser than the total answer sheets. Stricter norms should be brought so that students do not suffer, said Bagul.
