Your eyes pop out as the warm chocolate gracefully drizzles over the cookies as they freshly step out of the oven. Those who enjoy watching cooking on television will agree that foodie movies are infinitely more enticing. Nearly two hours of delicious food,up close and personal,on the big screen – nothing like it!
The recent film,Julie and Julia, starring Meryl Streep and Amy Adams, left many hungry and craving. French cuisine, shown so vividly in every frame, can leave the viewer desperate for wafts from the Riviera on the plates! Says Ridhu Bhatia,a media student,”I loved Julie and Julia. They depicted the French cuisine in such a beautiful way.” Chocolat,a story set in a fictitious French village, dealt with chocolates and emotions with finesse. “Johnny Depp and chocolates. Who could ask for anything else?” adds Bhatia, excitedly.
There are similar films that have left the viewers drooling at the screen. Take Ratatouille for instance. Anurag Pendharkar,a chef, was ecstatic when asked about his favourite food related movie. “It has to be Ratatouille! The movie truly upholds the fact that anyone can cook and I too believe in this mantra,” he says. Sprinkled with behind-the-kitchen scenes, the film eulogises the profession of chefs. “They have shown all the aspects of food production, right from the cutting and chopping,to what is laid on the table,” chef Anurag adds.
Another animated movie major was Garfield: A Tale of Two Kitties. A particular scene where Garfield makes his favourite lasanga, left Aditi De,owner of Radhika restaurant, drooling for more. “That scene has left an indelible impression on my mind. It made me drool so much that I came back home and made it for my family. Cheese, red sauce,et al,” she says.
Closer home,Cheeni Kum,won accolades among the masses. Chef Anand finds the role played by Amitabh Bachchan very realistic. “What has been portrayed in the movie is for real. Bachchan’s temperament, his obsession with perfection, everything. This is what happens in a real kitchen,” he says. His colleague, chef Himanshu, however roots for Kung Fu Chefs,a true concoction of chefs performing martial art chops and chopping food with equal dexterity. “The film shows the Chinese cuisine so closely, its wonderful,” he says.
But while watching make sure you are armed with enough snacks to munch on. Because boy will you get hungry while watching them!
