A magisterial court on Friday remanded Nayana Pujari gangrape-cum-murder accused Yogesh Raut and his brother Manoj who allegedly helped him escape from Sassoon Hospital in judicial custody in connection with the case of his escape from the hospital in September,2011.
Raut is one of the prime accused in the 2010 gangrape-cum-murder of Synechron employee Nayana Pujari. On September 17,2011,while the trial in the case was underway,Raut had fled from the hospital where he was brought after he complained of bodyache. Following this,he went to Delhi where he worked as an office boy with a private firm. The Pune police had arrested him on May 30 from Shirdi during his visit to the town. Since then he was in the police custody.
On Tuesday, the police arrested his brother Manoj for allegedly facilitating his escape from the hospital. The arrest was made after Raut told police that his brother had planned his escape and provided him a motorcycle, clothes and some cash.
Seeking additional custody of seven days,Bundgarden police produced the duo in the court of JMFC U L Pathak. The police argued that the custody was required to seek information about Rauts Sangamner-based friend Satish Parekar who also allegedly helped in the escape. The court, however, remanded the two in judicial custody. Advocates B A Aloor and R M Dhomre-Patil represented the Raut brothers.
