A rally-cum-public meeting has been organised in the city on Friday to support the release of Dr Binayak Sen for which the organisers have called on the citizens to attend the function. In a press release of the committee, the members have said that Sen has been imprisoned for the last 22 months for opposing Salwa Judum in Chhattisgarh and for exposing the killings of 12 innocent tribal youth in 2007.
“Though more than 47 witnesses have been examined, they could not find any evidence to back their claim that Sen is a Naxalite accomplice. Despite signature campaigns, dharnas and morchas demanding his release,Sen has not even been granted a bail. Hence, activists from different states have been sitting on Satyagaha every Monday from March 16,” said the release. To support this Satyagraha,a rally has been organised from Tilak statue in Mandai to Nivara Hall in Navi Peth at 5 pm. A public meeting has also been organised at Nivara Hall at 6 pm. Justice Kolse Patil will preside over. Bhai Vaidya will be the chief speaker.
