To facilitate smooth travel to and from the proposed international airport at Purandar, a railway line from the Rajewadi station on the Satara route has been proposed. This route has been included in Pune city’s and the district’s comprehensive mobility plan.

An integrated transport plan has been developed for the 2,550-sq km area covering Pune, Pimpri-Chinchwad, and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority. The implementation of this plan will be carried out in three phases, with an estimated cost of Rs 1.26 lakh crore.

The plan includes metro expansion, strengthening of Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited, expansion of bus rapid transit (BRT) corridors, and improvements to railway routes. Traffic improvement plans for Pune, Shivajinagar, Chinchwad, and the Talegaon railway station areas will also be implemented.

As per the integrated transport plan, the Talegaon and Daund railway stations will be connected via an outer railway bypass in two phases. In the first phase, a feeder service from Talegaon to Shikrapur via Uruli Kanchan is planned. In the second phase, a railway line from Shikrapur to Daund is proposed.

On the Satara route, two railway stations—Jejuri and Rajewadi—are located near the proposed airport. The Rajewadi station is the closest, making it a suitable point for a dedicated railway spur line connecting it to the airport.

The Pune-Lonavala railway line expansion will also allow better use of the outer railway bypass for traffic management. Additionally, a proposal to relocate the passenger terminal from the Fursungi station on the Pune-Miraj route to Shindawane is also part of the plan.

The plan also focuses on improving road connectivity to the new airport, with infrastructure enhancements proposed for the following routes:
