Always associated with flamboyantly dressed people,combined with the regular fanfare associated with the races,the Independence Day Race held at the Pune race course was a grand affair. While the Governor of Maharashtra,K Sankaranarayanan,was unable to be present for the Governor Cup race that is held every year on Independence Day the PRA Independence Day Million saw enthusiastic crowds cheer their favourite race horse to the finish line. Amongst others Shehernaz and Rustom Bharucha hosted a party for the invitees,where there was a special mocktail counter with mouth-watering snacks were served to everyone. In addition the military band performed during the breaks for cheering the patriotic fervour amongst the crowds. The PRA Independence Million was eventually won by Brunello owned by Vijay Shirke and Padmaja Shirke. The race day also saw two dance performances by the Piyush Malhotra Group that had the members entertained throughout the afternoon.
