Pune traffic police install AI-based camera on FC Road to track traffic violations
The project is being implemented by company Sensei AI through its 'AI-based traffic violation detection system' where vehicles parked in no-parking areas or obstructing traffic on the main road for more than three minutes will be captured by the camera.

The Pune traffic police has installed an ‘AI-based camera’ on Fergusson College Road through which penal action will be taken against vehicles violating rules like no parking, double parking, and obstructing traffic. The camera has been installed as an experimental test for now. It was inaugurated by Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar on Wednesday.
The project is being implemented by company Sensei AI through its ‘AI-based traffic violation detection system’ where vehicles parked in no-parking areas or obstructing traffic on the main road for more than three minutes will be captured by the camera. Once a vehicle’s number plate is captured, the information will be verified and an e-challan will be generated. A screen installed on FC road to educate the public about the system. Post the pilot project, the traffic police say that this system can be used at various places in Pune for traffic regulation.
It is not immediately clear how this camera integrates AI or Artificial Intelligence, or how it is different from the pre-existing cameras at various intersections in the city that capture number plates and levy e-challan fines for traffic rule violations.
After inaugurating the project Kumar said, “We are doing various experiments using technology to enforce traffic rules in the city. In this context an artificial intelligence-based enforcement proof of concept on an experimental basis is being started. Under this, mainly double parking or wrong side parking or wrong side movement would be enforced. This is the first such artificial intelligence system in the city …. Evidence based policing and minimum conflict with the public are the objectives of this experiment.”
