Pune is likely to experience only light and scattered rainfall over the next few days, following a weekend of meagre showers. The subdued weather pattern is expected to continue in surrounding areas as well. “The rainfall activities will remain subdued in the city, and no significant weather system is present over the region,” said S D Sanap, Senior Meteorologist at IMD Pune. He explained that while northeastern regions are receiving rain due to a western disturbance, Pune remains unaffected. Addressing concerns about the Shakhti cyclone that was anticipated over the Arabian Sea, Sanap clarified, “The cyclone is far from our coast, so we do not expect any impact on Pune’s weather. Initially, there were warnings of strong winds, but now the system has moved away from our region.” Sanap also discussed the possibility of post-monsoon rainfall in Pune. “Forecast accuracy decreases beyond five days. In the next few days, we may get light showers, but nothing significant that will disturb daily life. For periods beyond five days, we will have to wait and observe how the weather systems evolve,” he said. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has not issued any weather warnings for Pune in the coming days. With the monsoon withdrawal phase gradually starting, Pune is expected to remain mostly dry in the short term, though occasional light showers cannot be entirely ruled out.
