The commercial and operating branches of Pune Division of the Central Railway has bagged the Inter Divisional Shields for best performance during 2008-09. The commercial Shield has been bagged for the second consecutive year by the Division for its all round excellence. The division surpassed various parameters in terms of earnings by recording an impressive growth of 11 per cent in passenger earnings,10 per cent in ticket checking earnings and 27 per cent in commercial publicity,while the passenger complaints were drastically reduced by 22 per cent as compared to last year.
The Station Outstanding,which was Rs 14.83 crore in 2008-09 was brought down to Rs 38.51 lakh in March. The performance is all the more laudable considering that Pune Division is the youngest of all the divisions of Central Railway.
The target of Rs 385 lakh,set by the headquarters for the year 2008-09,was achieved on March 15,2009. During the year,five Jan Sadharan ticket booking sewaks were commissioned over the division,and 23 stations were installed with computerised ticketing facilities. The division also scored a first on Indian Railways by commissioning a computerised reservation facility at BEG Khadki. The division also completed passenger amenity work estimated at Rs 5.57 crore which won passenger appreciation.
Similarly,the operating branch excelled in terms of maintaining punctuality of passenger trains,the division ensured 97.42 per cent punctuality of mail/express trains. During the month of November,2008,the division achieved a record 99 per cent punctuality of mail/express trains.
Ashok Malhotra,senior divisional commercial manager,Pune,received the Commercial Shield,the Operating Shield was also received by Malhotra in the absence of Atul Rane,senior divisional operating manager,Pune on April 16. The Shields were presented by B B Modgil,General Manager of Central Railway,during the on the 54th Railway week on in Mumbai last.
