Pune police lodge FIR against Mahant Ramgiri Maharaj
During a recently held religious event at Shaha Panchale village in Sinnar taluka of Nashik district, Ramgiri Maharaj had made the alleged derogatory remarks against Islam and Prophet Mohammed and the video of his speech had gone viral on social media.

THE PUNE City police on Tuesday registered an FIR against Mahant Ramgiri Maharaj, a Hindu religious leader, on charges of making alleged derogatory remarks about Islam and Prophet Mohammed in a recent religious event in Nashik district. Multiple FIRs have been filed against him at various places in Maharashtra over his remarks.
The FIR in Pune was registered against Mahant Ramgiri Maharaj on Tuesday night at Khadak police based on a complaint filed by Shoib Ismail Shaikh (62), a resident of Ghorpade Peth, who is a local leader of the All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen.
During a recently held religious event at Shaha Panchale village in Sinnar taluka of Nashik district, Ramgiri Maharaj had made the alleged derogatory remarks against Islam and Prophet Mohammed and the video of his speech had gone viral on social media.
Shaikh has alleged in his FIR that Ramgiri Maharaj intentionally made these remarks to incite communal discord, heighten tensions, and undermine national integrity. He has said that his religious sentiments were hurt because of the comments.
Last week communal tension was reported in several districts of Maharashtra, including Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Nashik, Jalgaon and Ahmednagar. The law and order situation had arisen in these districts amidst bandh organised by Hindu organisations to protest atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh and protests by Muslim outfits in response to the alleged derogatory remarks by Ramgiri Maharaj.
