After having created a mark internationally on various fronts ranging from education to cultural and sports and from auto to an important IT centre in the country,Pune is now readying to acquire another identity,said Parag Mehta,managing director and general manager,QLogic (India) and the vice president of Software Exporter’s Association of Pune (SEAP) in his address during the “Seminar on Storage and Networking Protocols for the next generation’ organised by Pune Chips and Indian Semiconductor Association (ISA) recently.
In the field of information technology,Pune is fast emerging as a Research and Development Hub for global giants working in storage and networking domain, Mehta said. He said that increasing number of US Product companies in storage,networking and high performance computing are setting up their design centers in Pune and further aiding to build a strong eco system.
Mehta said one of the major reasons for Pune to have emerged as a preferred destination for many engineers returning after long stints in the US and other cities of India is the strong emerging eco-system,excellent educational institutes,and exceptional weather. Secondly,its proximity to Mumbai and several reputed engineering institutions such as IIT (Mumbai),PICT,COEP,MIT,VIT to name a few are helping to build the local eco system.
Many of these companies have come forward in partnering with academia and are conducting specialised course for electronic and telecommunication engineering students currently in association with COEP and PICT to develop workforce for future needs.
Mehta said that the global design centre of QLogic participates in core R & D work along with the team in the USA and helps in developing the companys next generation products. The seminar was later presented by Howard Goldstein a veteran with 30 years experience in the industry.
