An FIR in the matter was lodged based on a complaint by the deceased’s cousin Asif at the Hadapsar police station. Police arrested Mohammed Nijamuddin for allegedly murdering Imran following a financial dispute.

Police said Imran had allegedly taken a Rs 1 lakh loan from Mohammed but he did not return it. This led to a quarrel between the duo. Police probe revealed that Mohammed got angry and he allegedly killed Imran by banging his head on a wall and strangling him on the intervening night of October 10 and October 11.

Police claimed that to destroy the evidence, the accused packed Imran’s body in a cardboard box, wrapped it with a plastic tape and dumped the box near the canal in Hingne Mala. Senior police inspector Santosh Pandhare is investigating the case. Police said accused Mohammed was also doing the work of fitting water filters.
