Massive fire breaks out at scrap godown in Pune’s Jambhulwadi | Watch

A major fire broke out at a scrap godown near the Katraj area of Pune city early on Friday, officials said, adding that it was brought under control after a three-hour firefighting operation. No casualties were reported in the incident.

The Pune Fire Brigade control room received a call about the blaze at the scrap godown in Jambhulwadi at around 2 am. Nine fire tenders and water tankers from different fire stations of Pune and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority fire brigade were pressed into action.

After reaching the spot, the fire brigade teams led by senior Fire Officer Prabhakar Umratkar checked if anybody was stuck inside the godown.

“Nobody was inside, but the fire had spread over a large area. We doused the flames and brought the situation under control during the firefighting operation that went on till 5.15 am,” fireman Nilesh Patil said.

“No casualties were reported in the incident. But the scrap material inside the godown was badly damaged due to fire. The exact cause could not be ascertained,” he added.

The massive flames and smoke emanating from the godown sparked panic in the area. A Pune city police team also visited the spot after receiving information about the fire. The police said an inquiry is being conducted to ascertain the cause of the incident.
