Pune eves enter hockey quarterfinals

The Pune District Hockey Association girls maintained their superb form as they outplayed Orissa 3-0 to record their third successive win.

The Pune District Hockey Association (PDHA) girls maintained their superb form as they outplayed Orissa 3-0 to record their third successive win in the Pool-D and storm into the quarter-finals of the 35th Junior (under-20) National Hockey Championship for boys and girls,

The tournament is organised by the PDHA (Pune District Hockey Association) under the auspices of the IHF (Indian Hockey Federation),held at the Shiv Chhatrapati Sports Complex,Balewadi on Thursday.

Nutan Insole with two goals in the 21st and 33rd minutes played a crucial role in PDHA’s victory.

Pooja Bhoyar added the third soon after,finding the target in the 55th minute.

Meanwhile,in the boys’ section,co-hosts Maharashtra did not enjoy similar luck as they conceded three goals in the last 15 minutes of their match against Madhya Bharat to suffer an agonizing defeat. The home team found themselves 2-0 up by the middle of the game thanks to an early strike by Ajinkya Kalbhor,to which Ashutosh Lingesh added in the 45 th minute to give Maharashtra a 2-0 lead. However,Madhya Bharat refused to back down,and their ceaseless pressure paid off in the 55 th minute,when Utkarsha Sharma pulled one back for his team to make it 2-1. This injected new life into the attack,and they soon drew level thanks to Vinod Yadav,who smashed in the equaliser just two minutes later. The momentum of the game swung completely in Madhya Bharat’s direction,and Dhananjay Uchadiya slotted home the winner in the 62 nd minute to give them a deserving victory.
