27-year-old police constable aspirant dies during physical test in Pune

The deceased, Tushar Baban Bhalke belonged to a farmer family and is survived by his parents and sister. He had been preparing for the police recruitment test for the last few months.

A man died during the physical tests for recruitment of constables in Pune city police at the Shivajinagar police headquarters on Saturday morning.

Police identified the deceased as Tushar Baban Bhalke (27), resident of Kothe Budruk village in Sangamner taluka of Ahmednagar district.

Recruitments for constable and driver posts in Pune city police, Pune rural police and Pune Railway police as well as for the post of jail guards started on June 19.

Bhalke had come to the Shivajinagar police headquarters grounds in Pune to give the physical tests on Saturday. About 800 candidates like him were present for the tests that started at 8 am. One of the tests included running a distance of 1600 metres.

Police said Bhalke collapsed soon after he started running. Police personnel at the spot rushed to help him. He was taken to a hospital, where he died while undergoing treatment.

Deputy Commissioner of Police Rohidas Pawar said his body was taken to Sassoon hospital for post mortem. The cause of death will be revealed after the post mortem is received, he said.

Police informed his family members about the incident. Bhalke belongs to a farmer family and is survived by his parents and sister. He had been preparing for the police recruitment test for the last few months.
