As Pune welcomes Lord Ganesha on Monday for Ganesh Chaturthi,which marks the first day of the 10-day festival,police have geared up to ensure smooth passage of processions and celebrations.
For bandobast during the processions,additional forces three companies of State Reserved Police Force (SRPF) and one of Border Security Force (BSF) has been brought into the city.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Branch) M B Tambade said,In the backdrop of various alerts,deployment of forces has been done at various crucial places in the city. Squads from the Quick Response Team (QRT) and Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) have been kept on standby. Fixed point bandobast and nakabandi has been deployed at various places.
Police Commissioner Gulabrao Pol had announced that the 19 teams investigating the murder of Narendra Dabholkar will be diverted to festival duties.
The traffic control branch,which had unveiled a detailed plan of traffic diversions,will deploy its entire strength on road duties and have chalked out a plan for parking arrangements for the places where idols are bought by devotees. Special bandobast has been provided to areas that have important mandals.
