On Republic Day, the Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Ltd (PMPML) launched the iOS version of its live tracking app, Apli PMPML.

The iOS version was inaugurated by Deepa Mudhol Munde, Chairperson and Managing Director (CMD), PMPML.

The Android version of the app which 0was launched in August last year, is now available to over 10 lakh users, offering real-time bus tracking, route planning, and other services. The app’s primary feature provides information on all bus routes from the passenger’s current location to their desired destination, along with the Live Location Service, allowing users to track buses in real-time. Additional features include online ticket booking through the app, using the UPI transaction system, and the ability to lodge complaints online.

A technical official of the transport body informed that the two versions are largely the same.

Samrat Thorave, another IT official at PMPML, mentioned that the daily revenue from the app was around Rs 19 lakh, with expectations of breaching the Rs 25 lakh mark soon.

He noted that the app’s performance has been smooth so far, but regular feedback from commuters has also been taken into account. “The majority of the feedback relates to live tracking. When the bus moves through blank spots, the app sometimes fails to update its location. However, we are working on resolving this issue,” he said.

When asked why the iOS version took longer to launch and was not released alongside the Android version, Thorave explained that the delay was partly due to the time it took to finalise an agreement with Apple. He also mentioned that the fee required to work on the Apple version was higher compared to that for Android.

“Additionally, running such advanced apps requires extensive testing, and the app went through those necessary stages,” he further said.

PMPML has also taken other steps to make travel more convenient for commuters.

As per official information, a live bus tracking system has been set up at the Command Control Centre in Swargate. Commuters can now call the centre to get real-time updates on bus locations, delays, and arrivals.

PMPML has also upgraded its services with the installation of LED display boards and next-stop announcement systems in buses.
