PMC engineer held for Rs 10,000 bribe

The state ACB on Monday arrested a deputy engineer with the Pune Municipal Corporation for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a construction firm for ensuring permission is granted for road-digging to lay down a new electric connection.

The state ACB on Monday arrested a deputy engineer with the Pune Municipal Corporation for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000 from a construction firm for ensuring permission is granted for road-digging to lay down a new electric connection.

The ACB identified the engineer as Mushtaq Shaikh. The complaint against him was registered by an employee with a construction firm in Baner,Laxman Nagorao Waghmare.

An ACB press release said the company started a project on Pashan Sus Road and applied for permission to dig the road for a new power connection and paid the required fees for permission. Shaikh approached Waghmare and allegedly demanded Rs 10,000 for speedy approval. He allegedly said if it is not paid,he would point out flaws in the application and prevent permission. The ACB laid a trap and arrested Shaikh.
