While many celebrate the possession of past, the Bhats find it adventurous to own the future beforehand. Shrinivas R Bhat, president of the International Collectors Society of Rare Items and his son Punit Bhat boast of arich collecvtion of pins and coins and many such rare possessions from past historic events and many upcoming events.

Three years before the Olympic games to be held in England, the craze has already set in. British Government has come out with a very limited edition of Lapel Pins for 2012 Olympic Games to be held in England. Out of those limited edition of Lapel pins, the father-son0duo already owns one. Not only this, the lapel pin of winter Olympics,to be held in Canada this February is also among the proud possession of the duo’s elaborate collection. They both have put in a considerable amount of effort to be the one of the very few people to lay their hands on the first issue of stamps, coins and lapel pins issued by the Royal Mail and UK Mint in association with the organising committee of the London Olympics to commemorate the 2012 Olympic games.

Apart from rare pins and coins, the Bhats also collect miniature liquor bottles and Ganesh idols. Though the biggest of these is the Lapel pin collection and some very rare pins are the admiration of this set. Pins of every Olympics from 1896 to 2012,Sport bodies, sporting championships/Leagues like FIFA world cup,UEFA,ELP,NBA and several nationalities are the part of this assortment. Both father and son are Limca World record holders for their collections.

“Well, people collect a lot of stuff, and when it comes to collecting the memoirs of a country, plates and souvenirs are generally collected”,stated Shrinivas Bhat,“I used to travel a lot and it was really difficult to maintain those brittle mementos, moreover collecting such fragile huge saucers meant occupying a lot of space at home,on the contrary lapel pins turned out to be very convenient and I started with my collection”,he explains.

“I too got interested in collection of lapel pins when I saw my father’s collection,” Punit Bhat explained his love for the collection,“If anyone from the family or friends go to a new country, they always remember to bring in the souvenir,a lapel pin. I admire the collection and it has become a part of our family heritage”,he added.

London Olympics will come out with 2012 different designs of lapel pins in harmony with the year 2012. “We surely want those pins to be in our collection but these will be very expensive before the Games actually take place. We will look out for those pins after the games when these will be at a much cheaper price,” said Srinivas Bhatt,“We have started talking to our friends about keeping these pins during the games so that in future we don’t face much problem for the collection.” He added.
