School uniforms in time this year, say civic education dept officials
The education department of the PCMC has the notoriety of giving sweaters to its students in monsoon and raincoats in winter. Officials, however, promise that there would not be any such faux pas this time. We have issued tenders for purchasing uniforms. And we are confident the tender process would end in 45 days. By mid-June,all students would get uniforms, education official Vishnu Jadhav said. The PCMC has 57,000 primary and balwadi students and another 8,000 secondary school students in 152 schools. Jadhav said there were administrative problems in the past, but they would not recur in future. An amount of Rs 6.25 crore has been reserved for purchasing uniforms.
Tailpiece: Activists say the PCMC headquarters has been witnessing a no show these days. Reason: Both municipal commissioner Asheesh Sharma and Mayor Yogesh Behl are missing. While Sharma has gone to Coimbatore for election duty, the Mayor is on a Singapore tour. I will be away for 20 days overseeing the elections in Coimbatore, Sharma said.
