Under pressure from Opposition parties to tender his resignation for the attack on police during a protest march in Mumbai,State Home Minsiter R R Patil got full support from his party with state NCP chief Madhukar Pichad announcing that the party stands behind Patil.
We will not ask Patil to resign. He is a tough leader and his performance as home minister can be rated as good, said Pichad after addressing party workers in the city.
He clarified that the transfer of Mumbai Police Commissioner was not due to political pressure but a routine transfer. No one should take credit for the transfer as it was an administrative matter, Pichad said.
Meanwhile,Patil avoided media that was waiting to seek his opinion on transfer of Mumbai Police Commissioner Arup Patnaik and increasing pressure to resign after the violence in Mumbai during a protest rally.
Opposition parties are targeting NCP as the partys strength has been rising in the state, he told party workers. There is a conspiracy to target NCP leaders and few are supporting agitators indirectly to hit out at NCP ministers,Patil said.
The decisions of the state government are taken collectively by NCP and Congress,he said, adding that the alliance partner did not support the NCP in some places during civic polls.
The MNS,along with the Shiv Sena and BJP,has been demanding Patils resignation for the incident in which the police was attacked by miscreants during a protest rally in Azad Maidan.
