Panel to look into irregularities at Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalay

The state Higher and Technical Education Department has ordered setting up of a three-member committee to look into the complaints of financial irregularities at the two campuses of Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalay.

The state Higher and Technical Education Department has ordered setting up of a three-member committee to look into the complaints of financial irregularities at the two campuses of Abhinav Kala Mahavidyalay. The committee, headed by director of Art,Government of Maharashtra, will submit its report to the department by Sunday.

Expressing concerns over the possibility of shutting down of the two colleges, the Higher and Technical Education Department has written to the directorate of Arts saying that,“The sudden closure of the colleges will adversely affect the academic career of students. Bharatiya Kala Prasarini Sabha, the organisation that runs the colleges, cannot take such ‘one-sided decision’. Several complaints have been received against the colleges from the students as well as teaching and non-teaching staff. Thus the committee report will help look into these complaints.”

Earlier on May 16,Newsline had reported Bharatiya Kala Prasarini Sabha’s dacision to shut down both the colleges owing to financial crunch. As of now,the colleges get 90 per cent grant from the state government but they have demanded a 100 per cent grant to keep themselves afloat.

Protesting the decision of Bharatiya Kala Prasarini Sabha to shut down the colleges,Bharatiya Vidyarthi Sena representatives have demanded that a probe into the financial irregularities of the past six years be ordered.
