Once More

Timeless is the appeal of Mahabharat as even its sub-plots find relevance in any era.

Timeless is the appeal of Mahabharat as even its sub-plots find relevance in any era. There is something about Ek Aur Dronacharya, the play written by Shankar Shesh that makes it the choice of theatre groups frequently.

“The writer has drawn a parallel between the dillemma of Dronacharya, the tutor of the Kaurav-Pandav cousins and the predicament of a college principal in the modern-day setting and it never fails to strike a chord among all age groups of viewers,” says director Pradeep Dixit, overviewing rehearsal by the actors,a mix-bag of amateurs. “I am directing this play for the first time, but we are lucky to be guided by veteran Vinay Srivastav, who has directed it earlier,” says Srivastav,a CDRI employee and amateur theatre person.

“The cast this time comprises three generations of artistes, from a schoolkid to a retired person,” shares Srivastav.

“The lines in the script are loaded with passion…I fail to fight my tears no matter how many times I deliver the dialogue. Good,I wouldn’t need glycerine,” chirps Sabita Lahiri, who plays the consort of Dronacharya, played by Vijai Krishna.

The play this time is a presentation of the Indian Women Pride and Child Welfare Organisation, with the aid of the Human Resource Development Ministry and Culture Department,New Delhi and will be staged at Rai Umanath Bali 6:30PM on Saturday,February 4.
