There were three young musicians from India,South Korea and the US. Their lives and backgrounds were as different as the places they had come from, and yet when they first met in Cape Town,South Africa, they hit it off at once. We all happened to be chasing our dreams and ended up in Cape Town, and then just found each other. I met Arun Danam, the drummer, the day I moved there. He already knew lead guitarist Wade Morris and they played together in a band. Within no time,we were all jamming together and formed the band,Static Run, says frontman David Song from South Korea.
The three have been together for almost three years now and are currently on their first international tour this month, which includes a six-city visit to India. Song says,As we got to know and understand Arun better,we began to study Indian history and discovered that it is actually the second largest market for rock n roll. We thought Wow,what a great place to start touring. The band has already visited Jaipur,Lonavala and Bangalore, and will also visit Delhi and Hyderabad, apart from taking the stage in Danams hometown,Pune,on June 25. Here, they will be joined by Thanga Nohro,a guest bassist based in Bangalore.
Song explains the concept further, talking about one of the bands originals Reach for the sky. People have the idea that they are entitled to something or someone owes them something. A lot of times, this becomes their personal jail. So the song goes: Its ridiculous to look at me,Someone you do not know,And to think that you are owed. Part of the message is to reach for something new, he says. Reach for the sky is among some of the bands originals that will be featured on its soon-to-be recorded album.
Were in no rush; our main focus is on touring anyway, says Song. They have already planned a tour to Europe later this year, and one to the US next year.
Static Run will perform at Swig Bar and Cafe on June 25
