Old age homes set to greet 2012

For the 35 residents of Sandhya Home for the Aged in Nana Peth,preparations are on in full swing to welcome the New Year with performances and various programmes.

Sister Shubha S J,who manages the old age home,says this year they are expecting some students who will spend time with the residents. There is something special about the interaction with youngsters. The place is bubbling with enthusiasm, she said.

Jan Seva Foundation in Navi Peth,another old age home,will ring in the New Year with college students and other old age homes. This year around 70 students from different colleges will be visiting our home. A group of senior citizens will also visit Nivara old age home,Navi Peth on January 1.

Dr Vinod Shah,who manages the house said. In fact,on January 1,2012,Nivara old age home will see a power packed performance by members of their Century Club,who are approaching the age of 100 and are still socially active.

The Sangam Sarvajanik Seva Samiti in Chandan Nagar is planning a small programme in the day followed by discussions with the residents.

Madhuri Umrani,manager,said,Its a time we prefer getting together. We get a lot of visitors and on December 31 we are up till late. A similar programme will held at Matoshri Old Age Home in Karve Nagar. The highlights of the their evening programe include mimicry,dance performances and music.

Dignity Foundation,will be collaborating with the Rotary Club of Pune Central for a paintings and sports competition to be held at Empress Gardens on December 31.

We have certain schools where we run Interact Clubs. Around 40-50 students from different interact clubs will conduct a painting competition alongwith some mini sports for the senior citizens, said Pankaj Mehrotra,Director New Generations,Rotary Pune Central.
