Comprehensive training sessions in disaster management conducted by National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) for personnel of State Reserved Police Force (SRPF) in Pune were inaugurated by M Shashidhar Reddy vice-chairman of National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) on Friday.
This will be one of the first few training programmes for SRPF personnel after formation of State Disaster Response Units at nine locations in Maharashtra as per the guidelines from the Centre. Over 1,000 personnel from these nine centres will be imparted training in modern disaster management techniques in 25 batches for 30 days per batch. Along with Reddy,J K Sinha,a member of NDMA,J S Saharia,additional chief secretary (relief and rehabilitation) ministry of revenue and forest,Shridevi Goyal,additional director general of police for SRPF were present for the function.
Reddy said,After I took over as the vice-chairman of the authority in January,I had written to chief minsters of all the states about training state reserved police forces. I got an immediate response from the Maharashtra CM and and an active support from SRPF chief. S D Trimbake,commandant with the Unit I of SRPF in Pune,said the State Disaster Response Units need modern equipment to handle disasters.
Along with SRPF personnel,we feel that civil defence units and home guards should also be given training in disaster management. Civil officer must be given training in the same and infrastructure at the SRPF units can be used for the purpose. Reddy said provision for the trainings will soon be made and training of all 1000 SRFP personnel will be completed before monsoon next year.
From the SRPF units at the training,about 10 personnel will be selected for an advanced training programme in Coimbatore who will conduct training sessions for other personnel in the future.
